what's on | this August: Sail 2010 and Restaurant Week Summer Edition

S A I L  2 0 1 0

After having enjoyed Sail 2005, which attracted over 1 million visitors five years ago, I will definitely be returning to the much expected Sail 2010 taking place on and around the IJ River in Amsterdam between 19th and 23rd August. It is the perfect opportunity to see all sorts of modern yachts, tall ships, replicas and naval ships from across the world arriving from the North Sea. The event is free of charge and only occurs every 5 years, where everyone can also enjoy various kind of cultural and sport activities.  Get hold of the map beforehand to have an idea of where the ships will be located and do not forget your camera!

Another event I've been looking forward to is RESTAURANT WEEK:

  • You can now book online at:  www.restaurantweek.nl
  • Price:  €20,- for a three-course lunch or 25,- for a three-course dinner
  • Cancellation is allowed 24 hours prior to the booking time
  • Better make a note of any dietary restrictions (it it applies to you) when reserving online, as you usually get a surprise menu prepared by the chef.

Veel plezier!!

Oh this is an event that I would gladly go and see. But I don't know much about it - do they parade, or are just "parked" in a certain area?
As for Restaurant Week, I have also been looking forward to participating again. Last year was nice, we enjoyed both our restaurant trips. Thank you for recommending this last year!

Some ships are parked there and some keep parading all along. Lots of people also sail along with their own private boat just to follow the ships. It's really nice and fun as the KSNM, Java islands etc become like a harbour paradise for a few days :)

I might plan a trip die kant op either with hubbie over the weekend (parking must be hell, right?) or on my own during the week, sounds really nice. Thanks!
